German luxury penmaker Montblanc launched a limited-edition commemorative fountain pen in honor of Gandhi this week, just in time for the 140th anniversary of the birth of the Mahatma — or “Great Soul” — on Friday. The price for the pen happens to be $24,763. The decision to turn a man who shunned foreign-made products and pushed simple living to new extremes into a “brand ambassador” for a global luxury goods maker has left some Indians puzzled and others angry.

Is Montblanc really using Gandhi as a poster boy for their $25000 pen or the $150,000 they gave to Tushaar Gandhi’s Foundation absolve them of their ambition to make money off of the great man whose main mantra in life was simplicity? If you have an opinion on this, we would love to hear from you. More here.
